Here are some of our upcoming, current and past projects:
We are working with town staff to implement specific activities to make Carrboro a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community. Check out this presentation with details of what we are trying to accomplish over the next 2 years here.
Bicycle Friendly Businesses – We are promoting local bicycle-friendly businesses through our new program.
Bike Light Program – planned for this upcoming fall, we’ll be working with the Carrboro Police Department to provide coupons for bike lights for cyclists that are caught at night without a light.
Carrboro Open Streets – a huge hit two years running, Open Streets in our local ciclovía
Bicycle Mentoring Program – currently in planning, we will match up the experienced with new riders, promoting cycling as transportation.
Spring and Fall Newsletters – the Coalition publishes a newsletter twice a year.
Local Bike Laws – we are working with elected town officials and the police department to change the Carrboro Town Code in regards to bicycles.
Road Improvements – direct communication with town officials about improvement to roads that may assist cyclists, such as lowering the speed limit on Estes Road, widening the bike lanes on Weaver Street, and bicycle-sensitive stop light sensors.
Carrboro Comprehensive Bike Plan – supporting the changes proposed in this plan.
Bicycle Use Survey – we conducted a survey recently to gauge the residents attitudes about cycling.
Bike To Work Week – we have been supporting Bike To Work Week and other public transportation events.
Campus to Campus Bike Route – UNC and Chapel Hill have designed a route to go from the center of campus to the new Carolina North development. This runs through Carrboro.
Safe Routes to School – a plan has recently been approved by the Board of Aldermen, and we working to get this implemented and support the Bike-to-School events.
Kidical Mass – we have provided volunteers for this big event put on by the ReCYCLEry and Spoke N Revolutions.
Community Outreach – our members are reaching out to you at events like Shakori Music Festival and the Chapel Hill Cycling Celebrations. Our members often attend the meetings for Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit, Carrboro Transportation Advisory Board, Carrboro Greenways Commission, Carrboro Parks and Recreation, Chapel Hill Bicycling and Pedestrian Committee and the Carrboro Board of Aldermen.
